WHAT I LEARNT FROM POSTING DAILY

Monday, May 02, 2016

Up until yesterday I had challenged myself to post content every day; two videos on my channel as normal, but five posts on the blog to up the ante so they say. For some, daily posts and content is easy - or at least normal - because once you get the rhythm ideas flow, but for me I was waffling on three times a week saying too much and trying to get people to listen to me.

I also procrastinated a lot so there's that.

When you have less posting days, you seem to take longer in writing them - you could have a day off here and there for meetings, going to town, seeing the outside world, but you'd end up on Friday thinking 'crap I have NOTHING PREPARED OR SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK'. I am a planner, an organiser, I like to have ideas in place to fall back on or at least whip out quickly, but I got to a point where I didn't feel challenged, didn't see growth, and didn't feel, well, important.

As much as you should write for yourself, you want your words to have some substance and impact on others; whether it's a great skincare brand that would help your acne, or a restaurant for vegans, or just some tips on life to make you feel fab, what you write needs to have value and be different and sometimes it feel hard with others doing the same.

Granted, I waffle like I said, so sometimes I miss the point and what I hoped to achieve with daily posts was more concise language, quicker reading material yet informative, fun and easy to digest. I believe I've done that, my posts are shorter yet still have personality and I basically cut all the unnecessary words you skim trying to cut down your blog feed - I know, I feel.

Someone said that daily blogging is like writing in a diary daily, however I have to disagree slightly - you need to photograph the post or at least have suitable images, schedule tweets for it, word it for grammar and wit, heck even planning the post takes a while if you need to schedule ahead (like this, I'm writing this on April 19th because I'm going away and still have one more post to write, but need to schedule all the remaining posts, upload and edit my videos and make sure it all goes out on time. Daily blogging when you're going on holiday, hard task if you waffle.)

I think what made this easier was having a plan, a plan of what to write when, to think about what interested me, and essentially knowing what I could write about. I have experience in acne soothing skincare, vegan diets and food, interiors and general things that make me happy, so I wrote about that. By keeping that at the core, it made ideas easier and writing easier. Now, I'm currently feeling blank because I've spent that last 20 days writing to keep ahead, but I know I have a lot of potential content coming up that possibly I might just add one more post to my usual schedule, or make it into another video taking it the 3 uploads a week - WHO KNOWS.

Look, I waffled.

So what have I really learnt from daily content?
• You need to focus and train your brain to write less but still be informative
• You need a long list of ideas to refer to and keep you on track
• Scheduling is so important and can also take 5 minutes if you really push yourself to do it
• It can lead to blog growth, but it's not necessarily stayed the focus point throughout
• You'll feel mentally tired for a while and if you touch your head too much you'll fall asleep
• It's a great thing to try, but not essential to a fabulous blog.

Looking at my analytics, the stats aren't that different to when I posted three days a week so it's definitely quality over quantity, but it's safe to say if you don't try you don't know, and what I know now is that I can definitely create content I love in a more productive manner and hopefully keep inspiring you all.

Have you tried daily content? How often do you post? What are your thoughts on this topic?

Lots of Love,
Lauren x

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M FEELING 22! Yes, 100% allowed to sing that now, as today is my birthday! All the exclamation marks, all the excitement.

Before we get wrapped in birthday vibes, today is new video day and I'm seeing in the end of the month with another selection of my Monthly Favourites; finally Spring is here and I've been loving so much this month, everything from fashion to lifestyle, a bit of beauty of course and surprisingly not much blue. What is going on?

March has been awesome - heading to YouTube, meeting friends after years of conversation, the days getting lighter, and generally feeling happy about life, and now it's all topped off with my friends coming over for a birthday party.

If you want to give me the best birthday present ever, watch the video and SUBSCRIBE for free for videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am; I'm really hoping to up my content and make some fab videos for both me and you to enjoy - plus it's nearly a special anniversary on my channel soon EEK.

Have an awesome Tuesday, and here's to being 22!

HOW TO DEAL WITH SELF-PRESSURE - WHAT I DID THIS WEEK #3

Saturday, March 26, 2016

Well this week has been interesting. I promised that these videos would talk about everything in my week, and despite a good start to the week things basically went out of my control and I've spent the last few days feeling 'ugh'. Positivity is something I always try to promote but, apparently, you can't control everything and meet all your expectations, and that isn't something I can deal with.

So without being too much of a neggy ninny I've kept this week short and sweet (let me tell you this is the most mundane of weeks yet #soz #youtubebootcampputmebehind) and I'm going to try and write this all off before my birthday on Tuesday - 22, you know what's going to happen...

Hope you are all feeling fabulous, and self-pressure is a NO, but if you did like today's video please give it a thumbs up and come SUBSCRIBE here for videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

Lots of Love,
Lauren x

5 PRODUCTS + BRANDS FOR ACNE/BLEMISH PRONE SKIN

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Since going on my YouTube course, I've been thinking about what makes my channel about me and what parts of me make my channel. I do sometimes feel a bit lost but to be honest it took a little sit-down (and an afternoon of Sims 4) to identify that the one thing I harp on about constantly is that I'm a skincare gal - I love skincare, it's what I use daily, I invest in it and it's what primarily has helped with my acne.

After my last round of antibiotics when I was 17, I was adamant not to use them again and instead use natural methods to sort my body and skin out. Yes, it takes longer, you still get the odd outbreak, but it's so much better now and after watching an old video of me yesterday when my skin was covered in deep eruptions, I realised just how far I've come.

Back to skincare though, and I've always been one to invest in what I buy and try not to mix it up too much so I cans see a difference, so I've rounded-up the 5 best brands and products that have shown considerable positive effects to my skin (and happiness too - woohoo!)

As I said in the video, if you want more product reviews either here or on the channel let me know, and subscribe here for twice weekly videos on Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

YOUTUBE FAMOUS? WHAT I DID THIS WEEK #2

Saturday, March 19, 2016

Time for another weekly roundup and aside form the usual 'Sunday = pyjamas; Monday = typing + pyjamas' etc, I actually spent the last three days at YouTube learning how to make my channel grow and basically transported back to school.

I also finally met Meg and even went to a YouTube creator event, so to say I deserve a million years locked in my office is an understatement; I am tired, but now seriously inspired with my channel (so excuse this as the last 'old Lauren' video!)

Hope you enjoyed this little sit-down vlog, and don't forget to subscribe as it's free (wink) and you get to see two videos a week on Tuesday and Saturday sent straight to your sub box!

Lots of Love,
Lauren x

A HUGE PAPERCHASE HAUL

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

I don't know what happened but in the last month, I've become stationery MAD; there's always been an affinity with notepads and pens, but things seem to have escalated recently and I can only blame two things - the finally released Paperchase SS16 ranges plus a special discount card I've been given to encourage spending. Not that I can complain.

After hitting up their recent Trend Store and Planner Organising Worksop a few weeks ago (more on the blog soon!) I became obsessed with stickers, washi tape and all the new brand imports that make your planning sessions 100x more fun and your workspace look enjoyable and exciting!

I've hauled everything from magazine folders and stickers, to pens and pineapples (don't ask, just watch) and as a word of warning, you need to get down to your local flagship store pronto before I buy everything. At least a stationery addiction isn't that bad....OOH PAPERCLIPS!

Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed the haul and let me know what your stationery loves are in the comments; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

WHAT I DID THIS WEEK #1

Saturday, March 12, 2016

I'd been thinking for a while about doing some sort of more 'me' videos but it was all coming from a place of 'I hate having to go put makeup on', 'I hate having to set-up my lights' and 'UUGgghhGGHHH' - not a great place, plus add in a sprinkle of overthinking, a dash of creative pressure and some GENERAL WHY AM I NOT AS FAB AS OTHERS and you have a YouTube disaster waiting to happen.

When I read Hannah's post on blogging more in the real daily sense, it clicked in my head exactly what I'd wanted to achieve at the basis on this more 'relaxed video' - to talk about things I'd done with thought, ease, and general normalness (even the mundane bits) and you know what? It turned out pretty darn good.

So here's what I've been doing the last two weeks - it's kinda like a vlog, but not a vlog. A vlog is of the best/busy/social/non-pj days whereas this is that minus cute cutaways and music plus lots of loungewear, bare faces, and just watching House of Cards and trying to read Harry Potter until I'm accepted by society.

I hope you enjoy this type of video, it'll be coming your way every Saturday so make sure you give it a thumbs up and leave a comment telling me what you've been up to; also SUBSCRIBE to make sure you don't miss any of these rambles ever ;)

A PLANT-BASED/VEGAN FOOD HAUL

Tuesday, March 08, 2016

Food is one of my biggest loves; I'm always asking what's for dinner, making sure we have my fave food in stock and generally fawning over menus. Many times now, I've been asked by people turning vegan or plant-based what I eat, and to be honest I always stumble - it's harder I find during the winter, but with Spring in swing (sorry) I thought it would be a great time to show you what I pick up for a weekly shop whilst eating plant-based and enjoying all that grub to the max.

There's a big emphasis on protein and zinc, great for keeping skin in check and your muscles strong, plus a lot (a lot) of greens - spinach is my fave and always will be.

Whether you want to start having the odd meat-free day, are transitioning into veganism or want more ideas of what to buy, make sure you check out the video above, give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment telling me if you want more food videos; also SUBSCRIBE for videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

THE BEAUTY BRIEF #5: EVERYDAY MAKEUP ROUTINE

Saturday, March 05, 2016

It's been a long time since my last Beauty Brief post, and in all honesty I've been rocking the same type of look for most of Winter and the start of Spring because 1) it's easy, 2) I don't go out much, 3) my skin has been getting better and I've preferred lighter bases and products to work with.

That being said, I've recently been trying more cruelty-free and vegan-friendly brands which have been amazing for my skin so today's video and new BB instalment shows how you can rock a lovely natural face with some of my current favourite brands and quick/lazy girl products.

In more YouTube news, I'm going to be uploading every Saturday and alternate Tuesdays so I can focus on making more creative and thought-out videos, so hope you click subscribe to keep up to date - I've also just got a new background so here's to some fab new photos and videos too!

Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed the tutorial, and leave me a comment telling me what your current makeup routine is; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Saturday and Tuesday at 9am!

FEBRUARY FAVOURITES

Tuesday, March 01, 2016

IT'S FOUR WEEKS UNTIL MY BIRTHDAY AND I AM EXCITING/UNDER PREPARED FOR TURNING 22! I can't believe it's March already but to be honest, I'm glad to see the end of February as both it and January were slow, cold and just a bit 'oh come on where is the sun (but let me still wear jumpers)' kinda vibes. March, however, is the start of lighter days and nights, possible no-tight situations and (of course) BIRTHDAYS so expect to see a lot of themed things around here because gal gotta drag out her birthday for as long as she can right?

First things first, let's talk February Favourites which surprisingly there were more of than I thought; there was Marina's Neon Nature Tour which is obviously a fave as she was amazing, some new music and TV shows, a book that has taken me 15 years to read, and of course a few good beauty bits ranging from re-discovered Korean faves to some total blemish busters...

Also, I tried something new with the editing as I'm getting a new set-up soon for both my blog and YouTube, so let me know what you think; I'm also toying with the idea of uploading every Saturday and every other Tuesday, just because I might not have as much time soon and I also want to make sure my content is as creative and high quality as desired - all opinions welcome however!

Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it, and let me know in the comments what you've been loving in February; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every week!

LFW, MARINA & THE DIAMONDS + BLOG EVENTS

Saturday, February 27, 2016

Man alive this week has been hectic, but good hectic as I finally got to experience what life with easy access to London and events was really like - fun, late nights, and lots of experiences.

Seeing as I was doing a lot of fun things this past week, it was only fair I cracked out the vlogging camera again and shared what I got up to with you all - from photographing bloggers at LFW and hanging out at The Apartment, to crying over Marina at her gig, hanging out with Zoe for the day and getting my spa on, and finally hanging out and cooking with Madeline Shaw and making pizza in the evening, it was definitely a push of the ol'granny boundaries and got me out my comfort zone to try new things (aka go to bed at 1am and get 8:30 trains, so much concealer).

There will be some individual posts coming up in the next few weeks, but for now I'll just express that Marina was an absolute sensation and I was an emotional wreck; Jessops taught us some fab technical tricks and got me inspired for future workshops to develop my skills, a spa evening with SpaSeekers was totally relaxing and got rid of my mind tension, and #EatSmartWithMadeleine gave me great inspo to cook with berries whilst I Just Love It allowed my personalised carb dreams come true. All the carbs. This video is brought to you by carbs.

I hope you guys enjoyed this weekly vlog - I wasn't feeling fab about my channel at the beginning of the week but have since made plans for new content and creativity in filming, so keep a look out for that ;) If you did enjoy this video and want more vlogs, give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

SMOKEY PINK MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Saturday, February 20, 2016

So the blue girl decided to dabble in a bit of pink for once, and since I'm heading off to see Marina and The Diamonds live tomorrow (finally, the time has come) I thought why not go for something crazy and bold on both the lips and eyes in celebration of the Neon Nature/Froot Tour?

I've been playing with a few new and old favourites - firstly the Inika Liquid Foundation which is a lovely refresh on the skin, truly your skin but better (especially now my skin is looking clear) and is Organic too which is a huge plus; rediscovered is MAC Star Violet and Satin Taupe which are gorgeous shades, so shimmery and bold which is perfect as dark smokes always drown my eyes whereas a pop of pink really makes my eyes stand out - always a plus.

So a speedy video for your Saturday that shows you can wear double the colour and look fab-u-lous. I've been toying with the idea of going back to one video a week but I have too many ideas and things that two videos may have to keep hitting your sub boxes for a while now - what do you think? Any videos you'd like to see?

Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment telling me if you'd rock the pinks; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

HOW I EDIT MY PHOTOS

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

Editing photos is probably my favourite part of blogging - I've always loved the process, sitting down, narrowing down the shots and making them look bright, clean and just as I imagined them in my head when composing; since I've got a new lens and started doing shoots for others, my process has become more refined (for now) and I wanted to share with you just how I achieve the aesthetic feel I crave in all my photos (the need for blue is real and it's staying).

Like I said, I'm currently playing photographer for bloggers and more, so if you'd be interested in having me snap some things for you (including yourself) then drop me an email or tweet! And if you have any more photo video/post requests please leave me a comment and I'm sure I can put another updated Photography post together....

A HUGE ASOS HAUL

Saturday, February 13, 2016

I'm a big fan of the capsule wardrobe; years of buying too many cheap things and never wearing them lead to a monster wardrobe to tame but after successfully honing down my winter selection, it's time to add in a few key investment and transitional pieces.

ASOS was literally calling my name for days, a huge list of items asking to be bought but I narrowed it down to a few blouses for Spring, a pair of heels and some summer dresses, and man was I impressed. I may have returned a few items (more at the end of the video) but there some serious blue goals going on, let me tell you now.

Make sure to give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment telling me about your latest purchases or what videos you'd like to see next; also SUBSCRIBE for videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

LET'S TALK FEAR

Tuesday, February 09, 2016

Sometimes I just like to talk about things, and today I felt talking about fear might be a good idea - telling everyone what I'm afraid of, what a grand idea, can't see that biting me in the bum in years to come. Also, rhyming.

Personally, fear for me is something better address as then I find myself not as scared of it as I was before; the fear of not being good enough, doing well enough or not having something amazing to look back on sometimes (okay, most of the time) scares me but I've started to try and rational, even conquer, these fears by facing them head on - just not the spiders. Never.

What do you fear, big or small? Have you tried to conquer your fears? And did you enjoy todays slightly more chatty video - let me know your thoughts on my recent content and if you've liked the experimentation :)

STREAMLINE YOUR MIND

Saturday, February 06, 2016

I tend to find that most of my worry and pressure to get things done is from a backlog of junk in my brain - feeling and thinking there's more to be done than reality, tasks to remember and complete, heck even cleaning my brushes slips my mind, but this past week I've felt a desire to clarify and streamline life around me so I can begin to streamline my brain - release the jargon, realise what needs to be done and cleanse my life a little.

Whether it's a box of packaging to throw, nail polishes to cut down on, skincare rotation or listing off all those important tasks - big and small - so your brain feels empty enough to compute it all, I find that generally clearing the world around me helps me clear out the space inside.

So grab a pen and paper, sit back with today's new video below and release the tension in your brain as you finally unravel those thoughts and see what it really is you need to get done and how you're a #girlboss or #boyboss who is going to get things done and be inspired!

How do you like to streamline your mind? Are you a tidy person or have lists everywhere? What helps you to feel relaxed and de-junked?

Lots of Love,
Lauren x

WHEN YOU'RE FEELING TIRED

Tuesday, February 02, 2016

The past week has been one of restless and disturbed sleep thanks to the tailwind of storms from America (thanks Obama) and for me, feeling tired leads to a lack of motivation and pizzazz to get going with daily life.

With that in mind, I wanted to share a few little things that help me relax and get back in the pattern of normal sleep; we all have different levels of tiredness, different ways of switching off and getting into our chill zones, so here's my 10 cents of cliche yet always worth trying acts that get my head in the right space so catch up on some much needed zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

I tried something a little different with the video to fit the theme with how February's content will flow as of now, a lot more visual but snappy - please do let me know what you think as I'd love to try some more creative quickies this month talking about more personal topics!

Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it, and leave me a comment telling me how you get to sleep; also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

JANUARY FAVOURITES

Saturday, January 30, 2016

It feels like months since my last favourites video, but alas January has rolled to a close (thank god, can life start living now?) and it's time to recap on what's made the last few weeks a little bit more bearable.

Also, it feels like my videos are getting quicker and quicker recently - less waffle, more facts - so let me know if you like the faster pace or you want me to chill the heck out and speak a bit more.

There's the usual mix of beauty, Korean skincare (natch) and some candles because Anthropologie was too much of a temptation in the sales oh my, and naturally there's a nod to my Tria Light which you can watch the review of here as it's completely revolutionised my skin!

So a quick catchup for your Saturday - naturally today is all about relaxation, pyjamas and catching up on a week's videos so spend five minutes with us and see if you discover a new favourite ;)

Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and leave me a comment telling me what you favourites are, and also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

THE VIDEO: HOW TO GET PHOTOSHOPPED SKIN

Saturday, January 23, 2016

It seems completely ironic that today's video is about achieving a photoshopped-blurred complexion with me looking all barefaced and blemished when yesterday I posted about how my skin finally looked acne-free and clear. Irony, but perfect irony, because it shows how much I've come to appreciate and accept my skin over the years!

As my skin has become clearer or needed that extra TLC in finish, I've been loving the finish and longevity of products that produce a gorgeous blur to the complexion without looking too much on skin and keeping your base in place all day long. Korean brands are the best for formulas, and ever since I picked up Innisfree No-Sebum Blur Primer and Etude House Beauty Shot Face Blur Primer before Christmas I've not been able to start my makeup with anything else!

Sometimes you want that extra bit of coverage and substantial correcting to your skin on top, which is why I've been trialling the Kiko Skin Trainer CC Blur for a whole, and honestly, for full makeup days or filming it gives your complexion a flawless finish.

But don't just take my word for it, watch the video below for a quick review and side-by-side comparison of how lovely the products work together for an effortless and easy IRL Instagram filter on your face!

Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed hearing about the products, and leave me a comment telling me about your favourite primers - also SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!

THE VIDEO: UPDATED SKINCARE ROUTINE

Saturday, January 16, 2016

Y'all know I love my skincare - and I don't know why that gives me permission to say y'all; never again - and after two very big beauty hauls before Christmas I thought it was about time I updated you with my current skincare routine.

Previously, I hadn't purchased products I'd wanted for months so I cleared away the things I was using 'just because' and treated myself to a few (well, many) new products that would get my skin in ship-shape now that it has become a bit drier and feeling the cold winter weather.

I've hurled together both my day and night routines as there's not too much variation but a few key products I absolutely adore - you'll also see me briefly mention my new acne treatment which a full review of is coming soon, don't worry, I have lots of feelings.

So if you need something new in the skincare department that adds hydration, nourishes, helps acne and blemishes, smells like a spa and is generally 10/10 across the board, then make sure you watch today's video and give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it! Don't forget to leave me a comment telling me some of your skincare staples and SUBSCRIBE for new videos every Tuesday and Saturday at 9am!
